The pigeons were curious observers. I took a photo of the spot too, and later, back home, I marveled at the difference between the photo and the painting. Because I had sat there for an hour plus and studied what was in front of me...the texture of the bricks on the left, the glassy play of the water and the reflections, the cascade of the greens on the right coated on top with hot sun. Last day in August! So, this is a sample I did for a very young board book I am working on right now. It was one of those ideas that arrives in the middle of the night, to use an opaque paint on a dark paper, and let the space between the color be the line work. First I sketched the creature in pencil, and then scanned it, traced it with the pen tool, and started filling it with color and details. I want to try and make as 3D as possible, but my skills are still pretty limited.
